How to Get the Mida Mini Tool Back

Destiny 2 Mida Multi-Tool quest: How to get the Mida Mini-Tool and Destiny 2 Mida Multi-Tool scout rifle

How to start and complete the many steps in Destiny 2's Mida Multi-Tool quest.

The Mida Multi-Tool was a fan-favourite Scout Rifle from the original Destiny, so it's pleasing to see it return for the sequel.

The Destiny 2 Mida Multi-Tool is much the same as the original. It's an Exotic Scout Rifle with perks that boost move speed, and keeps your radar visible while aiming down sights.

However, while the original was a random drop or vendor purchase, Destiny 2 has you complete a questline before you can unlock it, though we expect for many players of the original, the work will be more than worth it.

If you're interested in other elusive weapons and armour, see our Destiny 2 Exotics list for what else is available and how to unlock them.

It's also worth noting undertaking this quest is one of the few ways to help you reach the Destiny 2 max level cap since it scales with whatever level you currently are. The prior link explains more, but the longer you wait to do the quest, the higher level the weapon will become.

How to get the Destiny 2 Mida Multi-Tool

Similar to certain Exotic weapons of the first game, unlocking the Mida Multi-Tool requires a number of specific steps. In brief, they are:

  1. Complete the main story and all follow-up EDZ story missions
  2. Get the Mida Mini-Tool from Devrim Kay as a quest reward
  3. With a Scout Rifle, get 50 precision kills and 25 kills without reloading
  4. Dismantle five Blue or Legendary Scout Rifles
  5. Get 50 airborne kills with an SMG

Thanks to both Arekkz and DrewskyStomp for filling in the gaps of the above steps.

Getting the Destiny 2 Mida Multi-Tool quest step-by-step

It's worth noting there are some spoilers for the end-game below, so read on at your own risk.

First you need to get the Mida Mini-Tool, which is a Legendary SMG given to you from Devrim Kay. To do this, you need to complete the story and get to level 20, then play through all the bonus EDZ story missions that appear.

Upon finishing Enhance, you should then be given the Mida Mini-Tool as a reward from Devrim Kay in the EDZ.

Next, head to the Tower and visit the Gunsmith, Banshee-44, who will give you the Sight, Shoot, Repeat quest. This has two steps.

  • Objective 1: Eliminate enemies with precision shots (50 total)
  • Objective 2: Eliminate multiple enemies without reloading (25 total)

Note the above must be performed with a Scout Rifle. Any will do. It's worth nothing the above can be done during any other activity, so feel free to chip away at it gradually while doing other things.

When both objectives have been completed, go back to Banshee-44, who will give you the Under the Hood quest step. This requires you to dismantle five blue (Rare) or purple (Legendary) Scout Rifles.

You should naturally see these drop over the course of playing, otherwise if you are reading this ahead of doing the quest, deposit them into your Vault so you can complete this step as easily as possible.

The Dawning and Moments of Triumph return for another year! Elsewhere, we've recently had the Bungie 30th Anniversary, which adds the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, Strange Coins, new Exotics including the Gjallarhorn and Forerunner. There's more to come in the Season of the Lost roadmap, but until then, we've seen the Wayfinders Voyage, the Astral Alignment activity and finding Atlas Skew, Trivial Mystery, Enigmatic Mystery, Ascendant Mystery, Data Cache, Parallax Trajectory and Ascendant Anchor locations. Elsewhere, we've seen new Nightfall weapons such as the Uzume RR4, Plug One.1 and Hung Jury SR4. Other recent new features include transmog and materials Synthstrand, Synthcord and Synthweave, the Splicer Gauntlet and Decrypted Data used to upgrade it.

Visit Banshee-44 again, and he will give you the final The Fall Will Kill You quest step, which requires you to get 50 airborne SMG kills. This means you must be in the air when the enemy you are firing upon dies. Like the Sight, Shoot, Repeat step, this can be performed during other activities, so feel free to work away at it while doing other things.

Once you have done this, return to Banshee-44 one final time, who will give you to Mida Multi-Tool.

Then, the Mida Multi-Tool is yours. Like the original Destiny, it's a precise and swift Scout Rifle with perks that boost move speed and keeps your radar visible while aiming down sights, making it a valuable asset in both regular play and Crucible matches. Enjoy using it!
